5 Tips to Successful Chocolate Covered Strawberries

A delightful treat perfect for Valentine's Day, birthdays, or just because. But before you get dipping, here are 5 tips to ensure your berries are irresistibly delicious.

The Tips

1. Master the foundation:
-Strawberry selection: Choose ripe, vibrant strawberries with no bruises or blemishes. Overripe berries will get mushy, while underripe ones lack flavour. Aim for berries at their peak sweetness.
-Washing and drying: Gently wash your strawberries using a vinegar-water bath to remove any residue. Pat them completely dry with paper towels. Moisture is the enemy of smooth chocolate!
-Chocolate choice: Opt for high-quality chocolate for the best taste and texture. Semi-sweet is a classic, but you can get adventurous with milk, dark, or even white chocolate. Melting in a double boiler ensures even tempering, but microwave bursts work too (stir every 30 seconds!).
2. Dipping like a pro:
-Temperature matters: Let your strawberries reach room temperature before dipping. Cold berries will cause the chocolate to seize and turn clumpy.
-Dip and twirl: Hold the strawberry by the stem and immerse it completely in the chocolate. Gently twirl it to remove excess chocolate, letting it drip back into the bowl. This creates a thinner, cleaner coat.
-Shake off the drips: Tap the strawberry lightly against the edge of the bowl to remove any large drips. This prevents a thick, uneven chocolate base.
3. Elevate the experience:
-Get creative with toppings: Sprinkle with chopped nuts, crushed cookies, edible glitter, or coconut flakes before the chocolate sets. For a drizzle effect, melt another type of chocolate and pipe it over the cooled strawberries.
-Think beyond toppings: Infuse your chocolate with liqueurs, spices like cinnamon or cayenne pepper, or even floral extracts for unique flavor profiles.
-Presentation perfection: Arrange your dipped strawberries on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Chill for 15-30 minutes for the chocolate to fully set, then transfer them to a beautiful platter for an impressive presentation.
4. Bonus tip: Leftover chocolate? Don't despair! Pour it into molds to make adorable chocolate hearts, stars, or any other shape you like. Perfect for gifting or just adding a little extra sweetness to your day.
5. Enjoy the fruits of your labor: These chocolate-covered strawberries are best enjoyed fresh, so share them with loved ones or indulge yourself (we won't judge!).
